There are essentially two types of changing systems: one is the probe change rack and the other is the styli change rack. First let’s have a look at the styli change rack.
Styli change rack. Styli change racks can be used with the following Renishaw probing systems: TP20, TP200, SP25 and SP600. Each of these systems contains a main body and module, only the module is exchanged. This means that the rack can exclusively change only one type of probe module, in that you cannot mix the TP20 with an SP 25 on the same rack. The advantages of Styli Change Rack is that it is (a) inexpensive and (b) passive in that it does not require any electrical connection. The Styli Change Rack is ideal for someone who is operating only one type of probing system for it gives them the flexibility to change between all styli configurations. When used with a fixed probe head, rather than a robotic head a Styli Change Rack is essential.
Probe change rack. As the name implies the Probe Change Rack will exchange probes, these are probes that are non-modular (usually). A simple example would be the TP20.
In all cases, an Autojoint must be affixed or included in the probe or extension that is to be used. This includes the TP20 touch probe. Probe change racks provide an astonishing amount of flexibility in that there is the ability to switch between technologies; this includes exchanging scanning probes with touch probes or laser probes. Further, extension bars complete with mounted probes can also be used. It truly gives the coordinate measuring machine total flexibility and power to measure just about anything presented to it while maximizing precision and speed. There are essentially two types of probe change racks: passive and active, passive units require the coordinate measuring machine to drive the Autojoint system into the port to disengage and to reengage when required. Active systems electronically ensure correct engagement when the Auto joint is driven into the port.
Here at CMMXYZ we understand these systems and can untangle the complexity for you and help you select the correct change rack for your job. We can also integrate this to your machine ensuring the best possible performance and the minimum amount of downtime.
