In many cases, the ideal calibration frequency depends on where the machine is located. If the machine is based in a clean room or laboratory, our CMM repair and calibration specialists recommend a calibration frequency of once annually.
If, on the other hand, the CMM is located on the shop floor, calibration should be conducted once every six months.
When it comes to changing a CMM’s calibration frequency, that decision is left to the customer. Our CMM repair and calibration specialists suggest taking the history of previous calibrations and the machine's location into account before making an official decision.
ASME is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and it is the governing body of B89 and ISO 10360-2 calibration procedures in North America.
The ASME B89 procedure uses a ball bar to calibrate and adjust a CMM. This standard has now been superseded by ISO 10360-2, which uses either step gauges or a laser interferometer for calibration and adjustment.
