This new guidance tool available in PC-DMIS 2020 R1 lets the operator clearly see which feature to measure and where the hits should be taken. This tool was designed for use with Romer Arms as well as manual CMM’s.

PC-DMIS 2020 R1 was just recently released, so I wanted to make a video to show you some of the new features and enhancements.
First thing I want to show you is something called Guided Portable Execution. Let's go ahead and open a portable program. This is just a simple program. I have intentionally created features on all sides of my part. The front, the side, the back and what will happen when I execute this is the CAD model will rotate and show the operator where the hits are to be taken, and this will be done automatically. This is quite a breakthrough for PC-DMIS because prior to this, it was a little frustrating to measure in the portable interface because you would have to constantly rotate that model. I'll point something out before I launch this, we actually need to enable this option and set of options, so it's F5 on the keyboard.
If we scroll down in the General tab, you can see it there on the bottom. It's called Auto scale manual feature during execution. That is not checked by default. I had to go ahead and check that prior to making this work. So if it's the first time you check this, make sure you press Defaults first, then OK.
Let's just launch this and I'll show you what it looks like.
See how that rotates? My first feature is PLN1 so I'll just simulate measuring these, and the other thing I'll point out is, before I measure the point of the feature, the dot is red. After I measure it, the dot turns green for the point. That's my PLN. My second PLN is here in the front. That's pretty cool. I was actually pretty impressed by this.
Now we're on the right side of the part, just got circle measurements. I'm not doing anything. I'm just letting this run and it's automatically scaling each view and guiding me through each point. Now, we're on the front of the part and a few vector points on the side. You can even see as how it's adjusting based on the vector, so if it's the normal vector of each point.
That's called Guided Portable Execution and that is now available in PC-DMIS 2020 R1.
